DAKTARI Bush School & Wildlife Orphanage

DAKTARI is a registered non-profit organisation located in the Limpopo Province, close to the Kruger National Park. It is a bush school where the mission is to inspire and educate local underprivileged children to care for their environment through the medium of a wildlife orphanage.

Every Monday we welcome a new group of 8 local underprivileged children for a week and give them the opportunity to discover, learn and become passionate about wildlife and conservation, their heritage. We also supplement their school curriculum in English, maths, environmental job opportunities, life skills and social issues.

Our goal is to enable today’s local underprivileged children to eventually be able to secure good employment in nature reserves, thereby improving their future quality of life.

We are also a home for injured and orphaned animals who cannot be released into the wild. DAKTARI needs volunteers to help teaching the children and taking care of the animals.
As a volunteer, you will get to teach children the importance of saving the environment, a task that gives you that feeling of deep satisfaction that comes from helping those less fortunate than yourself. You will feed and take care of the orphaned animals (Caracal, Bushbaby, Meerkats…) and you will be connecting with new people, learning about different cultures while you sit around the fire and stare up into the starriest nights you have ever seen! Every day will be a learning experience at DAKTARI, join us as a volunteer!
