Ty Coed Eco Lodge

The lodge and all it’s contents were designed for eco living.
Designed by the architect from the CAT centre for alternative technology in Wales as an example of sustainable living using green technology. Built using locally sourced, untreated Larch and Douglas Fir, in many respects the building is still living and breathing. Walls and floors are super insulated using “Warmcel” made from recycled newspapers and cardboard.
Triple glazed with passive solar heating via the conservatory spanning the entire south side of the main lodge it hardly needs any heating. For winter use and cold evenings the biomass wood pellet fire make it toasty. There are also remote controlled low energy heating panels that automatically come on in the morning if needed. 4kw of Solar PV panels provide the power. We have an arrangement with a Green Energy supplier. They buy our electricity during the day in exchange for powering us when the sun isn’t shining using 100% sustainable sources.
So together with wood pellets and the sun, the lodge costs nothing to run! Last year, all energy costs were ZERO !
Sewerage goes to our private bio treatment plant.
Inside we make all our own cleaning products including Multi Surface spray, wood polish, floor cleaner, dish washer powder and clothes washing powder ..they are very effective, free of chemicals and totally natural.
All lighting is low energy including the auto solar lighting that glows in the conservatory at night.
Appliances have been carefully chosen to be super low energy. When the sun is shining ( we hope it does ) they all use free power from the solar panels.
Crockery and glasses are all recycled.
The hot tub is wood fired using local responsibly sourced logs. Unlike most hot tubs no chemicals are used. Instead we change the water for every guest and use Dead Sea salt for sanitisation.
The salt water is then used as weed killer around the garden.
Even the lawn is Eco with self fertilising micro-clover !!

This luxury timber framed lodge is located in one of the most spectacular parts of Wales at the foot of the Cambrian mountains next to Gilfach nature reserve and Elan Valley.
Powered by the sun and biomass fuel, everything is eco-friendly
Relax by the fire pit in the garden or float in the sea salt hot tub in complete peace next to the river. Available for 2 people in the main lodge or for 3 or 4 which includes the self-contained annex.Everything from the build, the local timbers used, the paint, recycled furniture, fixtures, fittings and appliances are super eco. Heating is from a wonderful wood pellet stove which self-ignites at the flick of a switch. Super insulated and triple glazed with passive solar heating via the conservatory that spans the length of the south side. The main lodge and the self-contained annexe both have kingsize beds, wool mattresses and duvets with indian pure cotton covers. Both have a shower room using boilerless water heating.
The main lodge has a large smart TV that pops out from the wall. The annex has its own smart TV and sofa lounging area. Netflix Movies are provided free of charge.
A bluetooth surround speaker system is on the wall to connect your smartphone or MP3 player. Please feel free to have a tinkle on the piano. It is tuned and has a beautiful tone surrounded by the wooden walls. There is also a selection of board games, books and a casino standard poker set.
The lodge has unlimited Wifi and a comfortable desk with a wireless printer / fax / scanner and copier.
The kitchen is chef designed with cooker, microwave, toaster, fridge, coffee machine, dishwasher and all the copper pans, sharp knives and equipment you can think of.
Out in the utility room there is a low energy washing machine, a drier and a small freezer.
Outside in the large, lawned garden there is a wonderful, wood fired hot tub. Unlike most hot tubs we don’t use toxic chemicals, just Hymalayan Sea Salt water which you can buoyantly float in while star gazing with only the peaceful sounds of nature, the crackling of the wood fire and the river rippling by.
There are sunloungers and a large round firepit table to enjoy a BBQ and soak up the tranquility.
